OUR STAFF
Vickie Snoy, Executive Director: "This special place makes a difference in the lives of its students. Makes a difference in the lives of their families, too. I know that's the case. "
Larry Emery, Headmaster: "We help students develop a wide variety of intelligences based on Howard Gardner's research. Not just musical intelligence but bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences. By learning and perfecting the many skills needed to be an effective student musician, students are able to become capable and sought-out applicants to prestigious high schools and then colleges/universities. Music allows young learners to become students of substance as they gain a better insight into their own lives and the lives of others."
Donald Morris, Music Director: "I've been here 25 years -- my calling is to work with young people in an urban setting. I am just delighted when I see them come back grown up and successful."
Anthony Carr, Language Arts: "Being an alum and realizing how this school has impacted me gives me a great sense of accomplishment and pride. I now stand before my students hoping to give them the skills and knowledge that will enable them to develop personally and professionally."
George Davey, Concert Chorus Accompanist & Keyboard Instructor: "When asked to be a part of a school where young talented students were not only being taught the 'three R's', but have musical courses, and have a chance for practical application of their musical training, it was a no brainer. I was on board and have been for the past 7 plus years."
Shani Foster, Voice: " 'Teaching children may be the highest way to seek God. It is however, also the most daunting way, in the sense of the greatest responsibility.' - Gabriela Mistral. To have the opportunity to inspire and create a passion for learning in the students of the Newark Boys Chorus School is an exhilarating feeling."
Albert Head, 4th grade: "What a privilege to teach young African American fine minds and be taught in the process. Newark Boys Chorus School provides that excellent opportunity."
Brenda McLeod, Administrator: "My son is an alum of school. I saw firsthand what the school provides. It's not just academics; kids get a broader view, they benefit from the music and the travel. They exhibit mature behavior."
Terry Monaco, Mathematics & Technology Coordinator: "The CORE VALUES of integrity, mutual respect, scholarship, pursuit of excellence, creative expression, and cooperative spirit, are alive and active in the personal lives of all my colleagues and students."
Michael Sanflippo, Apprentice Chorus Director & Music Theory Instructor: "Our graduates have an edge. We are preparing young men to be successful in high school and beyond, and the experiences that they have here are unique. Alumni leave with skills that include comfort in public speaking, articulate and engaging interaction with those they meet, and of course a level of choral artistry that will always be a model for how they should strive to be excellent in all their endeavors".
Laura Terrell, Social Studies: "I love to hear the boys sing inspirational songs as I move through the halls or grade a set of papers in my classroom. It really brightens my day."
Jestan Weeks, Science: "I love it here, the environment, small classes, strong parent commitment. We have the freedom to build relations among faculty, students, and parents."
Luis Zea, Spanish: "Teaching here is a great experience. It's an opportunity to help kids become better citizens and improve this world."
