Donald C. Morris,
Director of Music and Concert Chorus Director, leads rehearsal.

George Davey – Keyboard Accompanist
Mr. Davey has a long history of musical
accompaniment and choral direction. He is well known in Massachusetts,
New York City and
Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. Davey's formal musical training began at The Jamaica
School of Music. He earned a Bachelor's in Music from
Atlantic
Union
College and a Master's
in Sacred Music from Boston
University. In Jamaica, Mr. Davey was accompanist to an Anglican touring choir of
men and boys known as The Kingston College Chapel Choir as well as The
University Singers, a touring chorus of the University of the West Indies. Mr. Davey joined NBCS in 2004 as an accompanist and
keyboard instructor. Mr. Davey is also an
accompanist for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Community Chorus and
serves as the organist and choral director for the Rutgers Presbyterian
Church and Ephesus
Seventh
Day
Adventist
Church in
New York City. He is a
member of the American Guild of Organists and the American Choral
Directors Association.
Lawrence C. Emery –
Headmaster
Mr. Emery, an 21-year employee of NBCS, is the senior academic in
charge of all school operations with the exception of the music programs. He is a graduate of
Saint Vincent
College in
Latrobe,
Pennsylvania, and received
his Master's in Supervision and Administration from
Seton
Hall
University. He has taken
additional studies at Vanderbilt University International Institute for
Principals at Peabody
College in
Nashville,
Tennessee, and at the
Harvard Graduate School of Education. Mr. Emery pursued
sabbatical studies at Princeton
University. He has
experience in every academic position from classroom teacher to principal
and is currently a member of several professional associations, including
the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and
both the state chapter and national Association of Independent School
Principals. Mr. Emery is also a past board member of the Principal Center
of Garden State.
Elissa A. McGhee - Fourth
Grade
Ms. McGhee is NBCS's teacher for a
self-contained class of 4th graders. She
received her Bachelor's in Psychology from
Virginia
State
University. Ms. McGhee
honed her teaching skills as a substitute teacher in Newark and
Jersey City public schools.
Prior to joining NBCS in 2000, she was a counselor for the
Upward Bound Project at Seton
Hall
University and later
joined Medgar
Evers
College in Brooklyn as a counselor
in the Liberty Partnerships Program of Middle High School. Ms. McGhee
also has a deep interest in ethnic art, which adds another dimension to
the educational experience of her students.
Brenda C. McLeod -
Office Manager
Ms. McLeod joined NBCS in January 1999 as part-time office manager and
became a full time staff member six months later. As
the parent of a former alumnus (class of 1998), she served consecutively as NBCS Parent
Advisory Council vice president and president. Ms. McLeod
is a 1974 graduate of Fairleigh
Dickenson
University with a
Bachelor's in Business Management and Human Resources. Prior to
joining the NBCS staff, Ms. McLeod was employed as the Human Resources
Manager for LSG Sky Chefs at Newark
Liberty
International
Airport for 15 years.
Theresa A. Monaco -
Mathematics, Technology Coordinator
Mrs. Monaco is a certified
Mathematics teacher who minored in Mathematics at
Rutgers
University while working
as a computer programmer. She earned her Bachelor's (magna
cum laude) in Psychology from New Jersey's
Caldwell
College and gained her
teacher certification while raising three children. Mrs. Monaco is a member of
both state and national math teaching associations and has been selected
for special study in her field by Montclair
State and
Rutgers
universities. Mrs. Monaco has completed
the "Leadership Program in Discrete Mathematics" at Rutgers' Center for
Mathematics and Science. She has also been a presenter at the Association
of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey and the National Council of Teachers
of Mathematics annual conferences. Since joining NBCS in
1993, Mrs. Monaco has greatly
enhanced the Math Program, resulting in higher student achievement on the
Stanford 10 Test of academic skills.
Donald C. Morris -
Director of Music
Mr. Morris joined NBCS in 1987 as a science teacher and associate
conductor of the Concert Chorus. He was appointed Chorus Director in 1996
when he also assumed the position of Director of Music. Mr. Morris has led
the Concert Chorus on local, state, national and international tours,
gaining national and international acclaim for its performances. South Africa, Russia, Australia, France and Finland and the Czech
Republic are just a few
of the countries the Chorus has performed in under his direction. Under his supervision
in May of 2002, the Chorus performed at the United
Nations for Nelson Mandela and has performed at venues such as Carnegie
Hall, Lincoln
Center and the
New Jersey
Performing
Arts
Center. Mr. Morris
has degrees in zoology, chemistry, piano performance and music education
from the University of
West Indies,
Westminster
Choir
College in Princeton, the Royal
College of Music and Hunter College, New York City.
Caroline Parody -
Voice, Accompanist
Ms. Parody joined NBCS in 2002 as a part-time vocal coach and
Apprentice Chorus accompanist. She received her Master's in piano
from Montclair State University (MSU), and earned her Bachelor's of Music from
William
Paterson
University, where she
received honors in Performance and Scholarship. Ms. Parody is New Jersey-certified for grades K-12 and has taught chorus and music in both public
and private schools. She currently teaches voice and piano at MSU's Preparatory
Center for the Arts and
serves on the faculty of its music department. In addition to her
New York City recital debut,
her many area performances include appearances in concert with the Summit
Music Festival, the Harmony Singers, and the Concord Singers.
Michael Sanflippo - Music Theory, Director of Apprentice
Chorus
Mr. Sanflippo joined NBCS in 1994 as Music Theory teacher and director of the Apprentice Chorus. He earned his
Bachelor's in Music Theory from Philadelphia College of Performing
Arts in 1984 and followed with a year of post-graduate studies in choral
conducting in Hungary. He later
earned his Master's in Music and Music Education from Teachers
College, Columbia University,
New York City. He has
experience teaching multiple age levels, including adults, college,
pre-school, elementary and high school, and is often invited to direct
local and regional festivals. As Director of the Apprentice
Chorus, which consists of 4th and 5th graders, Mr. Sanflippo
leads the young chorus members in their upbeat performances before
audiences in schools, community centers, nursing homes and adult daycare
centers in the Greater Newark area. Mr. Sanflippo
also directs community choirs in Wayne and
Summit,
New Jersey, and is
Director of Music at the Community
United
Methodist
Church in
Roselle Park,
New Jersey.
Vickie J. Snoy –
Director
Ms. Snoy joined the
Newark
Boys
Chorus
School in November
2004 after more than 35 years as a communications professional in the
corporate world, most of them with Prudential Financial. Born and raised
in the Midwest, she has been a Newark resident since
1981 and has had extensive involvement in volunteer leadership roles with small-
and mid-sized arts and cultural organizations. These have included Aljira, a contemporary multicultural arts center for
emerging and under-served artists, and the Newark Preservation &
Landmarks Committee.
Ms. Snoy recently completed her third term as
president of the board of the Newark Arts Council and is an
appointee to Newark’s Public Art
Commission. She served also six years as a state appointee to the Advisory
Board of The Newark Public Schools.
The recipient of numerous awards for her professional communications work
and her volunteer activities, Ms. Snoy was most
recently recognized for the latter by Prudential Financial with its
"Prudential Cares" Volunteer Award.
Ms. Snoy earned a Bachelor’s in
Journalism from
Northwestern
University,
Evanston,
Illinois, and returns
to campus twice each year to mentor current undergraduates in her role as
a member of the school’s alumnae Council of One Hundred.
