HISTORY

Through the efforts of a few members of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Symphony and private individuals, a new chapter in the history of the chorus began on September 15, 1969 with the opening of a full-time academic school. The school was established on that date and incorporated as the New Jersey Symphony Boys Chorus on September 25, 1969. It was one of the nation's first schools to offer a full-time quality education with a unique choral experience. In September 1972 the school officially adopted the name Newark Boys Chorus, which later became Newark Boys Chorus School.

INTERNATIONAL TOUR

In the summer of 2004, thirty-eight members of the Concert Chorus completed another successful triennial international tour from July 6th - 22nd with Music Director Donald Morris and four adult chaperones.

It is the goal of NBCS to ensure that each student gets to travel internationally at least once during his tenure at the School. Their itinerary included Paris, France where the boys were hosted for three days by families of the Paris Children's Choir; Prague, Czech Republic; Stuttgart, Germany; the cities of Salzburg and Vienna in Austria, and Zurich, Switzerland where they viewed the picturesque vistas of the Alps.
The Concert Chorus is performing in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic.
