ADMISSIONS
Newark Boys Chorus School is open to any (young man) entering his 4th, 5th and occasionally, 6th year of academic studies. Students
in grades 7 and 8 are rarely admitted unless they have extensive prior musical or choral experience
enabling them to fully participate in NBCS choral groups.
NBCS seeks students who not only have an interest in music but also have solid academic skills, strong motivation and a reliable support system at home. These qualities are necessary for students
in successfully balancing our challenging academic program with rehearsals and frequent choral performances. Therefore, all applicants are required to undergo an academic assessment to determine their skills level and a music audition for the purpose of determining voice quality. Subsequently, both student and parent(s) are interviewed by Headmaster Lawrence Emery and NBCS staff. Admission decisions are made after thoroughly evaluating a variety of factors.
RECRUITMENT DEPARTMENT
Many people are not aware that NBCS is a fully accredited independent school offering education for boys in grades four through eight. Enrollment criteria include musical aptitude as displayed in an audition, generally at the school, and a good GPA. Interested candidates are also encouraged to be "students for the day" at NBCS. While attending NBCS, students have the opportunity to learn about the world while receiving a rigorous academic education, developing musical skills and traveling globally.
